Cleaning a stone sink

Posted by David Magid - TashMart on

Products not to use when cleaning stone

Buyers always ask me how to take care of their stone sink.  Maintaining and cleaning a stone sink is easy, but there are a few products that should be avoided.  Travertine and marble are a form of limestone.  Limestone and acid do not go well together.  Therefore, you should avoid abrasive cleaning products that have acid such as vinegar, lime away or similar products.

The best products for cleaning a stone sink are simple soap and water, or a mixture of ammonia and water.  After cleaning your sink, make sure you rinse completely to remove all of the cleaner.  Left over cleaning product can form a film or soap scum on the stone. Sealing your stone sink every two years is also important for keeping your sink looking good.  You can use any stone sealer sold at the big box stores.
